Outrage as a fake lawyer who posed as a certified lawyer and won 26 cases in various courts in Kenya has been arrested by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nairobi Branch.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was nabbed by the Rapid Action Team (RAT) of the LSK after they received complaints from the public about his fraudulent activities.
The man had been masquerading as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the LSK Nairobi Branch, and had successfully represented clients in different cases before High Court Judges, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges. He had even defended the former Mungiki leader in a televised court proceeding.
However, his luck ran out when the RAT conducted a background check on him and found out that he was not an advocate and did not have a license to practice law in Kenya.
According to a statement by the LSK Nairobi Branch on their X account, the man was neither an advocate of the High Court of Kenya nor a member of the LSK Nairobi Branch.
“It has been brought to the attention of the LSK Nairobi Branch through the Rapid Action Team (RAT), that the man has been presenting and conducting himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of LSK Nairobi Branch,” read the statement in part.
The man was apprehended and taken to the RAT headquarters for further investigation. The LSK Nairobi Branch warned the public to be vigilant and verify the credentials of any person claiming to be a lawyer before engaging their services. They also urged anyone who had been duped by the fake lawyer to report to them or to the nearest police station.
