The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, (UNICAL VC), Prof. Florence Obi has stated that the institution has put in place several mechanisms to assist hardworking students breakthrough in their academic pursuit.
JUNGLETALKER learnt that the Vice Chalcellor made the statement while addressing freshmen admitted for the 2021/2022 Academic session. She made the remarks at the occasion of the Freshmen Orientation Ceremony that took place at the Institution’s International Conference Center.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has stated that the institution has put in place several mechanisms to help hardworking students excel in their academics.
Prof. Obi made this statement while addressing newly admitted students for the 2021/2022 Academic session at the occasion of the Freshmen Orientation Ceremony held at the University’s International Conference Center.
she was quoted to have made the following remarks and comments;
“You have the right to say no to sexual advancement and molestation, I am a mother and we as parents did not send our children to be feasted upon by old men, but to be protected.
“We have centres you can report to, like the Centre for Gender Studies, Guidance and Counselling, as well as, some Youth Friendly Hubs.
The University Vice Chancellor urged the students to be diligent, well-dressed, humble and respectful to the staff of the University, as she prayed for God’s guidance over them.
The school Registrar, Mr Gabriel O. Egbe also made some remarks, he spoke on “University Policies, Rules and Students Discipline”. Egbe said it is a tradition of the institution to bring together newly admitted students to orientate them about basic policies, rules and regulations of the University, and other range of services and privileges available to them as significant members of the University Community.
Mr Egbe said policies, rules and regulations are made to achieve certain standards intended to benefit all, this is even as he said the institution is a corporate entity comprising the students, staff and Management team.

The Registrar also urged the staff to play by the rules and regulations of the institution which are geared towards actualising the mission and vision of the University. Meanwhile, Mr Egbe added that the University’s standard is comparable to any other within and outside the country.
Earlier, the Dean, of Student Affairs, Dr Anthony Eyang while addressing the new intakes of the institution, tasked them to obey to the existing laid down foundation for the task ahead. The Dean assured the students that the institution is blessed with a dynamic Vice Chancellor that has put in place all they needed to excel in their academic pursuit, as he urge them to maximise the opportunities. He also charged them to become better alumni/ambassadors of their alma mater and our dear country.
Conclusively, the Registrar also admonished the newly admitted students to inculcate the habit of self-discipline to get that “prestigious reward” which is the certificate, adding that, they should not relent in their pursuit to excel.
