Northern Elders Advise President Buhari To Handle Elections With Caution

President Muhammadu Buhari has been counseled by the sociopolitical organization Northern Elders Council, NEC, that he must exercise prudence in all circumstances leading up to the polls in order to guarantee fair and transparent voting.

NEC leader Mallam Tanko Yakasai claimed that some non-state players with access to the executive branch intend to utilize their proximity to the position to create disorder and sabotage the electoral process for their own personal advantage.

In a statement, the NEC urged the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to be cautious of such groups for the sake of the nation.

After the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, held its next congress, Yakasai, who had previously endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate, promised that the party will be making additional policy announcements in the days to come regarding the state of the country.

“NEC, at all times, will not shy away from its commitment to peace, unity and stability of Nigeria,” Mallam Yakasai said in the statement.

He hoped that Nigerians would not get it wrong at the coming polls by joining forces with progressive elements, stressing that the group had taken stock of developments in the nation’s political space.
