Electrician Jailed 5 Months For Stealing Neighbor’s Cellphone

A 30 year old Electrician identified to be Ola Ibrahim, was given a five-month prison term on Monday by a Karu Upper Area Court in Abuja for allegedly snatching his Neighbor’s cellphone.

Malam Ishaq Hassan, the judge, offered the offender a choice of a N10,000 fine.

Additionally, Hassan mandated that the offender pay the complaint N36,000 in damages.


Ibrahim, who lives in the FCT’s Kpegegyi village, had already admitted guilt to the accusation of theft and begged for mercy.

The complainant, Alice Danjuma, of the same address as the convict, reported the incident to the Jikwoyi Police Station on January 24, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Mr. Ayotunde Adeyanju.

He said the complainant alleged that the convict invited her to his friend’s house and she later discovered that her phone was missing.

He said the complainant suspected that the convict stole the said phone.

The offence, he said contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
