On Thursday, a total of 10 passengers died from burn injuries on the Oyo-Ogbomoso road.
The passengers were completely burned beyond recognition after being involved in a head-on collision between a Mazda and a Toyota Hiace passenger bus.
The event was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ibadan.
Joshua Adekanye, the state’s FRSC Sector Commander, reported that the incident happened at around 5:30 in the morning near Kilometre 12 Ijawaya on the Oyo-Ogbomoso route.
According to him, the buses bearing the license plates LEM 963 XA and NSR 222 ZS originated in the states of Lagos and Nasarawa, respectively.
According to Adekanye, the cars quickly caught fire and the occupants were burned.
He blamed overloading and excessive speed for the collision.
He urged drivers to avoid nighttime travel, excessive speed, and overloading, saying that the fatality would have been lower if the vehicles had not been traveling at night.
